English Translation

Brahma said:

The god who is pleased by being praised with names,

I will proclaim those names to you as they were told before. || 1 ||

Salutations to Surya, the eternal one, to Ravi, the maker of the day,

To Bhaskara, to Matanga, to Martanda, to Vivasvan. || 2 ||

Salutations to Aditya, to the primal god, to the wearer of a garland of rays,

To Divakara, to the shining one, to Agni, to Mihira. || 3 ||

Salutations to Prabhakara, to Mitra, to the son of Aditi,

Salutations always to the protector of cattle, to the lord of the directions. || 4 ||

Salutations to the supporter, to the creator, to Aryaman, to Varuna,

To Pushna, to Bhaga, to Mitra, to Parjanya, to Anshu. || 5 ||

Salutations always to the benefactor, to Dharma, to Tapana,

To Hari, to the one with green horses, to the lord of the universe. || 6 ||

Salutations always to Vishnu, to Brahma, to Tryambaka, and to the Self,

Salutations to the lord of the seven worlds, salutations to the seven times seven. || 7 ||

Salutations to that one alone, to the one with a single-wheeled chariot,

Salutations always to the lord of luminaries, to the supporter of all life. || 8 ||

For the welfare of all beings, to Shiva, the remover of affliction,

Salutations to the awakener of the lotus, salutations to the twelve-formed one. || 9 ||

Salutations to you, born of the sage, salutations to the daughter of Tara,

Salutations to you, born of Bhima, and salutations to Pavaka. || 10 ||

Salutations always to Disha, salutations always to Krishna,

Salutations to the son of Aditi, salutations always to Lakshya. || 11 ||

These names of Aditya were proclaimed by me in ancient times,

For the worship of the god, by all who have fulfilled their vows. || 12 ||

In the evening and morning, having become pure, one who reads with focused attention,

Obtains all desires, just as I obtained in the past. || 13 ||

By the grace of that god, the great-souled Bhaskara,

The desirer of wealth obtains prosperity, the seeker of dharma obtains dharma. || 14 ||

The sick one is freed from disease, the bound one is freed from bondage,

The seeker of kingdom obtains a kingdom, the seeker of desires obtains desires. || 15 ||

This is to be chanted in secret, and for the twilight worship,

By this chanting alone, a person is freed from sin. || 16 ||
