English Translation
To make truth the words of the humble one quickly,
He emerged from the middle of the assembly hall pillar,
For that humble devotee who desired boon-giving,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain (Himavat).
Whom people of pure mind constantly worship,
With eyes turned inward and body like that of the Lord of the Ganges (Shiva),
To completely remove sins and faults forever,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Who is Shiva according to Shaiva teachers,
Who is Hari according to Vaishnava teachers,
Who is Parashakti according to Shaktas,
Who is that Supreme Being, different from all,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Who is an ocean of mercy, difficult to protect,
Who cuts down the great tree of sinful tendencies,
The unreachable refuge for the fallen,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
By whom the words "jagat" (world) and "neti" (not this, not this) are restrained,
By whom the Supreme Brahman form is established,
Knowing which by true nature one becomes liberated,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Who, giving up attachment to enjoyment and giving firm detachment,
Desires liberation, and places the bracelet on the wrist,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
When a man's mind is absorbed in devotion and mantra,
He sees with his own body the unfailing form,
The body of Narasimha, thus say the Vedas,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
From whose lotus feet service arises for men,
Firm detachment from worldly objects is quickly produced,
Whose body radiance dispels the darkness of ignorance,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
The ocean of compassion who bestows the chariot, the bow, the boon, and fearlessness,
With lotus-like hands, the bestower of compassion,
Whose two-foot (lotus) is pleased and pure as the moon,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Who bears the bow (Pinaka), the chariot, the boon, and fearlessness,
With hands blooming like lotus flowers,
With the canopy of the serpent king and pure moon-like eyes,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Having attained discrimination, detachment, and the six virtues,
Through the nets of Vedanta,
We bow to Him who is always for the enlightenment of others,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Who dwells ever-joyfully on the bank of the Nandi river,
Playfully protecting the world of devotees with his glance,
The discerning ones bow at his feet which are difficult to attain,
We bow to Narasimha, the dweller in the mountain.
Whose own form is the Shikha (crest), the Vedas, and their essence,
Which the sages recite with joy,
Who sports freely on the banks of the Nandini river,
Whose form is consciousness and bliss, we worship Narasimha.
Some say the body, senses, etc. are the Supreme,
Others say the mind is the Supreme, others say nothing exists,
Fools devoid of knowledge, who are atheists,
Whose form is eternal bliss, we worship Narasimha.
Whose eternal bliss-consciousness form
Is praised by the heads of scriptures, sages like Arya, Indra, etc.,
Holding it easily in the lotus of the heart,
We worship the eternal bliss-consciousness form, Narasimha.
Previously, he emerged from the middle of the pillar,
To make the words of his devotee come true quickly,
Whose inner being is filled with joy and compassion,
May the wise, with devotion, worship Narasimha.
Previously, the disciples of Shankaracharya,
Whose bodies were scorched by fiery asceticism,
Worshipped him to quickly alleviate the burning,
May the wise, with devotion, worship Narasimha.
People wear those unfailing gems,
Firmly held by the string of devotion,
Seeking liberation, with friends and well-wishers,
Who grant peace and the highest good.
