English Translation

I bow to the goddess Varada,

Of pleasant countenance, the bestower of all accomplishments,

Who shines like a million suns,

Who is of the form of fire and is well-established.

Adorned with red garments at the hips,

Decorated with red garlands,

Wearing a girdle of gunja beads on her waist,

She is of the form of supreme light.

She causes death, infatuation, and control,

She causes stupefaction and attraction,

She is the bearer of the skull and arrows,

She is of the form of supreme light.

Beloved of Lord Shiva who is self-born,

Dwelling in the realm of seasons,

Of terrible aspect and smiling-faced,

She is of the form of supreme light.

Full of passion, always worshipped,

The bestower of desired fruits,

Lover of wine and filled with passion,

She is of the form of supreme light.

She who gives intelligence to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma,

She who makes the impossible possible,

She who is eternal,

She is of the form of supreme light.

Worshipped at night with offerings,

Lover of goat flesh and blood,

Wearing various ornaments,

The fierce Raudri served by hosts of Pisachas.

One who is pure-minded should recite this octet,

Which is of the form of meditation, with delighted mind,

On Shivaratri, on the day of fasting,

Or on Varuni day as well.

On the full moon day or new moon day,

On Saturday or Tuesday,

One should always recite this,

And attain perfection at every step.
